During April 2022 we visited the Tavira area of Portugal. Tavira is located approximately 45 minutes east of Faro and is close to the border with Spain. It is a quiet, unassuming town filled with restaurants, bars and cafes. Its location is excellent for golfers due to its close proximity to Monte Rei, the number one course in Portugal and Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima golf clubs. A superb trio of courses! The group also enjoyed the fact that the area was a little quieter than the more popular golfing destinations of the Algarve. Early nights = good golf the next day!!
The Golf Courses
We played four rounds, two at the stunning Monte Rei Club, number one course in Portugal and a must play, one at Quinta de Cima and one at Quinta da Ria, both are ranked in the top 25 in the country. Take a look at the golf courses below…
Restaurants
Our hotel featured two great restaurants – Balsa and the rooftop Nomad restaurant. The Nomad provided exceptional views of the local town and the Atlantic Ocean. The group also visited local restaurants in Tavira which were only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Gilao was great for local fish and Canalha was a favourite amongst the steak eaters! Both were situated down beautiful cobbled streets which exuded a feeling of the local Portuguese culture.
