PGA Catalunya, Girona, Spain

2020

Find out more about the trip

In March 2022 we visited PGA Catalunya which is situated about 1 hour north of Barcelona. PGA Catalunya is frequently voted number one golf resort in Spain, we all agreed that this is an accurate ranking! We stayed in the 5* Hotel Camiral which is onsite and played the two courses, The Stadium and The Tour. We also played the Forest course at Emporda.

The format of this trip was a little different to previous trips in that we took a smaller group and offered more coaching. It was a great success as all participants enjoyed being able to work on their golf with more help from our coaching team on the super practice facilities. We were able to use the 400 yards driving range, two pitching greens, two putting greens and five bunkers to help improve every aspect of the game.

The Golf Courses

Both courses at PGA Catalunya are ranked in the top 10 in Spain, the Stadium course hosted The Catalunya Championship on the DP Tour three weeks after we played, hence the rough being high and the greens being very fast for our visit!! It is also ranked as one of the hardest courses in Europe with a slope rating off the back tees of 155!! In spite of this very high slope rating all of the group regarded the course as hard but fair and very enjoyable.

We played one round on the Forest course at Emporda GC which is situated approximately 45 minutes away from Hotel Camiral. This was a different style course, shorter and tighter, cut out of the forest and a perfect contrast to the two longer and more open courses at PGA Catalunya. The group really enjoyed the different challenge provided by this course!

Restaurants

Restaurants – We enjoyed some great meals in the restaurants which were onsite. The 1477 and The Lounge Bar at our hotel and also the Club Cafe at the clubhouse all offered different and interesting menus so provided lots of choice depending on what we wanted to eat. We were fortunate to visit Girona which is renowned as a hub of gastronomic gems! The group had an exceptional dinner at Cal Ros which featured local cuisine in a traditional Catalan style restaurant setting.
